Why Domestic Violence Training For Beauty Industry Professionals?

The global pandemic of COVID-19 has exposed the hidden pandemic of domestic violence, and beauty industry professionals are in a unique position to combat both of these public health emergencies. BARBICIDE® is proud to partner with a Nashville-based organization and licensed stylist in an effort to bring domestic violence education to the worldwide beauty industry.

New estimates by the United Nations Population Fund suggest a worldwide increase of 20 percent of intimate partner violence cases, or 15 million additional ones.

YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee created the Shear Haven Domestic Violence Training with volunteer Susanne Post. Susanne is a survivor of domestic violence and a licensed cosmetologist and salon owner in Nashville, TN and in 2017, Susanne and the YWCA teamed up to create a training program for local salon owners and stylists. They are committed to educating the community and helping all victims of domestic abuse through Shear Haven.

This effort has extended to advocating for legislation in Tennessee to bring the life-saving training to all licensed cosmetologists. This Shear Haven training video equips stylists with:

Knowledge and resources to recognize the signs of domestic violence
Guidance on how to successfully navigate conversations with clients who may be in danger
Tools and resources that can help your client get to safety

What’s Included In The Training?

This training will consist of a 20 minute training session followed by a short quiz. After completion, you will receive a personalized certificate of achievement. Please keep the certificate for your permanent records.

This program trains you to know the correct information and how to be observant of those around you so that you can be key in promoting health and more quickly recognize illness. As an ambassador, you will use your already powerful leadership role in the community to ensure that correct information about health and illness is utilized and shared.
