Learning Tips and Advice

We know that starting or continuing your journey can be hard for a multitude of different reasons. We want to ensure you have support, and feel that you can get access to support where needed.

Supporting our learners is important, and learning support for adult learners and apprentices refers to a range of services and resources designed to assist and enhance the educational experience of adults who are pursuing further education or training. These services are provided to help learners overcome various challenges, acquire new skills, and achieve their learning goals. Learning support is particularly important for those who may have barriers or specific needs that could otherwise hinder their learning process, however learning support comes in all shapes and sizes, so just sharing some simple tips may help!

Here are some key components and aspects of learning support for adult learners and apprentices:

Assessment and Diagnostic Services
All learners are assessed for their English and Math level at the start of their course. This to identify support needs and offer help where required. For those with specific learning difficulties or disabilities, assessments and diagnostics are essential to identify their needs and develop tailored support plans.

Financial Support
Many learners face financial barriers to education. Support can include information about grants, scholarships, loans, and other financial assistance options. There is also a section in the hub dedicated to financial wellbeing.

Tutoring and Academic Support
Some learners may require one-to-one or group tutoring to help them with specific subject matter or academic challenges. These needs will be identified and highlighted by your allocated assessor.
This may also include language and literacy support.  Learners who are not fluent in English or who have low literacy skills may be able to receive support to improve their language and literacy abilities.

Technology and Digital Skills
In an increasingly digital world, support with computer literacy and digital skills is crucial. This includes tutorials and support in using software, the internet, and digital tools.

Disability Support
Any learners with disabilities may require accommodations such as accessible learning materials, assistive technology, and adapted assessment methods. These should be declared at enrolment, but you have the right to choose whether or not to declare these.

Childcare and Transport Services
Some adult learners may need, and be eligible for help with arranging childcare or transportation to enable them to attend classes or training. This should be discussed at enrolment to ensure we are able to help with this. If you are an apprentice, you may be able to get support with childcare.

Learning support for adult learners and apprentices aims to make education more accessible and effective for a diverse range of individuals, regardless of their background, abilities, or challenges. It helps empower adults to acquire new skills, improve their employability, and enhance their overall quality of life. It is important that you speak openly and honestly with your tutor/assessor so as to determine the help available for you.

We are always asking our learners and team members for feedback, and this includes on things outside of the subject that you may find are impacting your course or learning. For this reason, we have put together some tutorials on the systems that you may be asked to use during your session, or some of the digital tasks that you may be asked to complete that you don't feel confident with.
